Trax – Wheel Balance Weight Technology

Guidelines

APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR TRAX™ ADHESIVE BALANCE WEIGHTS

» 1. Prepare Wheel

Prepare Wheel

Good surface cleaning is essential. Prepare the wheel by removing any excess dirt or brake dust and clean the surface using a clean cloth and an appropriate cleaning agent such as minimum 70% isopropanol (IPA). The wheel temperature should be a minimum 50 °F. Ensure the wheel is dry *.

» 2. Cut to Correct Weight

Cut to Correct Weight

Cut the strip or roll to the required weight. It is recommended to use sharp scissors or a knife to avoid damaging or folding the adhesive layer.

» 3. Remove Protective Film

Remove Protective Film

Remove the protective liner from the underside of the adhesive. Care must be taken not to touch or contaminate the exposed adhesive to dirt or grease prior to application.

» 4. Apply Weight

Apply Weight

Fit the adhesive weight to the identified imbalance zone and apply even pressure across the balance weight to ensure that maximum adhesion is gained. Minimum fitting force is 10lbs (typically a hard push for 2 to 3 seconds). Re-seating the weight is not recommended as the adhesive will lose tack - use only once **.

*NEW WHEELS - Any surface chemicals (eg wax) that have leached to the surface during the painting of the wheel rim must be removed. Failure to do so will result in reduced bonding levels or failure at some point in the future. This may only need to be a dry wipe or, especially for new wheels, a wet wipe is advised. It is recommended that all Trax™ adhesive balance weights are fitted to rims with a surface energy level greater than 37 dynes. Wheels with excessive corrosion and textured finish may not enable the balance weight adhesive to achieve maximum bond strength.

**There may be a small visible gap between the adhesive and the rim, either on the centre or to the outer edges of the weight. This is due to radii difference as the weight fitment meets a compromise on various rims. The balance weights have been tested to withstand a minimum shear force to Original Equipment standards. Initial bond is typically achieved approximately 15 minutes after fitment; maximum bond strength may not be achieved until 24Hrs after fitment. It is recommended to store Trax™ adhesive weights in a cool dry location away from direct sunlight and should be used within 1 year of purchase.
